They love fast fibre, and that is why they would not dream of doing anything to slow you down like throttling or traffic managing.

They have scrapped data caps and all the plans are now unlimited. They just do not make sense in a world of fibre and 4K Netflix. They want to offer New Zealanders the best broadband possible – and innovation is the way they drive this.

Orcon knows its stuff when it comes to internet. The company was the first to unbundle the local loop, the first to launch a mass-market plug and play VoIP device, and the first to get Kiwis hooked up to ultra-fast broadband.

I would change but I must confess that the thought of setting up another modem doesn't appeal. But Orcon has been a disappointment.
The Manila staff are better informed than their Kiwi counterparts were.

Landline & national calls are thrown in.

Frequent outages & lost connections-FAR too frequent !!!


Wifi doesn't work.

Orcon is not very fast.

Currently I am neutral and will have to do a more thorough review later. I signed up with Orcon for the special fibre and landline package on September19th or thereabouts. I was under the impression that I would have fibre by the end of September and I would be able to retain my current phone number. Well that still hasn't happened yet (as of today Oct 24). They connected me to their broadband service on the 25th September to great fanfare. However, I wanted FIBRE. Also my landline was disconnected by my previous server Vodafone who eventually told us both that they OWNED my phone number and it was disconnected for good. I've been told by 2 different agents that my fibre will be connected in 1 to 6 months. After lots of calls and emails back and forth they have given me a discount until the fibre is up and running. They still say as of last week that they are working on getting my landline number back but I still don't have a landline. ...read more
The broadband that has been provided is as good as Vodafone. I have had no problems with it so far. After lots of emails and hours on the phone, they do listen and try to make some compensation.
Orcon has very poor organisation. No one seems to know what the other person is doing. It's obvious you're talking to people in another country who although very very polite and nice, do not really understand much about the country they are supposed to be giving support to. As of today I still have no word about my landline although 2 weeks ago a very nice man told me he was getting on to that immediately and he would also be seeing about getting my fibre on asap. Not much since then. I'm a bit weary after the ordeal and wait patiently and in hope that all will come right in the end. Setup a total shambles. After two weeks of trying to get my internet and phone set up I gave up. Was without a phone for nearly two weeks. Calling the call centre was a nightmare. Router supplied was a very basic single channel device that could only deliver around 30% of the advertised download speed. With an old dual-band router lashed up to Orcon's I got 100%.
Very fast and easily achieved the advertised upload and down load speed of 100/20 at the router. Mind you that was NorthPower's network. Orcon are only retailers.
Heaven help you have any reason to call the call centre. Get a prescription for tranquilisers before you do. I'm not kidding!
