One NZ customers are facing another broadband price increase, with the telco announcing changes to its broadband pricing effective from April 22nd 2026.
One NZ has close to 400,000 fixed broadband connections (which includes fibre broadband customers) as part of its overall broadband base. This figure reflects the total number of fixed broadband services (including fibre and other fixed types - fixed wireless, ADSL and VDSL) the company provides to customers across New Zealand. One NZ also serves well over 2 million total customers across mobile, broadband and other services, making it one of the largest telco providers in the country.
Most fixed broadband customers in New Zealand are now on fibre, as fibre uptake has reached roughly 70 % of premises passed nationally, so while a precise standalone “fibre-only subscriber” number from One NZ isn’t publicly broken out in the sources we have available, it’s safe to say the majority of the 400,000 customers are fibre broadband users - so by our estimates that is 300,000 connections that will be seeing a price increase. (One NZ have an article on their website which says 75% of customers are on fibre - see here)
With an estimated 300,000 households each paying $5 more a month, this equates to an extra $1.5m a month.... or $18 MILLION in extra broadband costs a year to be paid by Kiwi consumers.
Switching fibre provider is typically incredibly smooth when:
1. You’re already on fibre
2. You don’t change speed tiers dramatically
3. You don’t cancel your old provider before the new one confirms activation
4. You have access to your ONT (the white fibre box attached to your wall) and router
In many cases, it’s literally:
1. Sign up with new provider
2. They schedule transfer date
3. Service transfers over
4. Plug in new router or change a couple of settings on your old router
Done. $60 a year saved. PLEASE TAKE ACTION!

Ouch.

There have been a few other price rises, but most of the providers already hiked their prices back in the second part of 2025. You can read more about those price increase here, in our broadband price hikes news article.
Back in 2025 we saw broadband prices increase for Spark, 2degrees, Slingshot, Skinny and BigPipe.
There has been another Spark price increase for one of their plans however. The Spark Broadband Lite Fibre Plan will change from 120GB/month for $65.00 to 180GB/month for $70.00 - so a $5 increase. This is a CAPPED plan. You can get many UNLIMITED date plans for less than or equal to $70 per month - including the increased price One NZ plan! So we find it difficult to understand why any consumers are on this Spark Lite Fibre plan?
One NZ have explained the price increases as follows
"Our team is here to keep you connected, and we’re always working hard to deliver a great experience. However, rising third party wholesale costs, increasing technology costs and the cost of network improvements to provide a reliable service, means we’re updating our prices soon.
Your plan prices will change on your first bill from 22 April 2026. "
Chorus, the biggest of the wholesale infrastructure providers (or local fibre companies), made wholesale pricing changes from January 1st 2026 and when previously asked they said, “Retail pricing decisions are made independently by each provider”.
One New Zealand has also recently opened a new Head Office office in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter – seven years after relocating from the city centre to the North Shore under the then Vodafone banner.
